An overview of Android
Android runs on the Linux kernel, the bottom layer, which manages the device's hardware - the processor, the memory, the camera and the rest - and connects that hardware to the software that will make use of it at run time.
The software Android developers write builds on a set of libraries and routines already registered inside the operating system, called the Application Framework and the Code Libraries, which give the programmer easy, direct access to the system's own operations and services
When an application runs on Android, the operating system builds a dedicated instance of itself to run that application - what is known as the Dalvik Virtual Machine. And since that is simply an engine for executing Java instructions, it expects an Android application to be written mainly in Java!
An Android application is, in essence, Java code combined with a user interface whose properties are stored in XML tags - and XML is a straightforward way of keeping data in text files that people and machines can both read easily.
This track was designed for people who have no idea about programming and have never worked with a programming language before, and it does not assume any grounding in computer science either. Nor do you have to worry about which subjects to study, or what to learn first: the track gives you everything you need, in the order that gets you to being a capable Android developer most effectively.

Communications engineer and C/C++ trainer
Islam began his professional life seven years ago as a software engineer working in C/C++, and over those years he has built a number of systems: the IHCA compression library, the VPCOIP protocol for connecting terminal devices to virtual machines remotely, and GUI-RDP, a front end to the protocols behind remote desktop connections. That work was accredited by ITIDA. Islam also holds several networking certifications from Cisco and VMware.

Graphic designer and media consultant
Wael Shaaban Hafez is one of the finest designers in the Arab world and has won a long list of local and international awards. He has more than ten years' experience in graphic design and commercial photography, works to a professional standard across the whole Adobe suite, and has produced work for major Arab and European companies as well as advising several foreign firms as a media consultant. His body of original design work is considerable.

Chief executive and database developer
Waleed started on computer science and programming at around the age of 11, on the old Q-Basic, and has worked with a long list of technologies in programming, databases and computer systems generally ever since. He is now chief executive of the software company Code-Times, Ltd, specialising in systems analysis, MS SQL Server database development and building large-scale applications on MS .NET for both the web and Windows. At Seven Dash he runs the training departments and designs and delivers many of the specialised computer-science programmes, following his own idea of what training should be: content as close as possible to the real working practice of a software house in the job market, rather than an academic syllabus with no regard for how the material is applied.

The questions we are asked most about this training programme
- Do I need anything before I can take this track?
- Not at all. If you can use a computer you are ready to study this track and become an Android developer. We designed the syllabus deliberately to start from the fundamentals of computer science and programming, so nothing at all is assumed before you begin.
- What about the certificates I will receive?
- You will receive 3 attendance certificates from Seven Dash, one for each of the main subjects you have studied - see an example of the certificate here. They carry a hologram against forgery as well as verification codes, so any organisation can confirm on our site that the details on a certificate are genuine.
- Can I obtain any other certificates related to this course?
- Yes. You can sit exams online with foreign training institutes to earn their certificates, and if you want to, Seven Dash will arrange the exams and handle the paperwork for issuing your certificate on your behalf. Note that the cost of the exams and the certificates, and any other cost involved, is not included in the price of the track shown above.
- Where does the teaching take place, and what do I need to bring with me?
- Teaching takes place in our own labs, and there is nothing you need to bring. We provide everything: up-to-date computers, a comfortable and very well suited place to study, the course pack, paper, pens and anything else you may need while you are studying, as well as a free drinks cafeteria and the other basics.
- Do you have other branches where this course runs?
- Not at the moment. This course is taught at 98 Mostafa El Nahas Street, Nasr City.
- We are a commercial organisation and would like our staff trained on this syllabus. Do you offer that?
- Yes. We can deliver this syllabus in full to commercial and non-commercial organisations.
