Waleed Mohamed
Waleed Mohamed
Managing director, and database developer

Waleed started on computer science and programming at around the age of 11, on the old Q-Basic, and has worked across a long list of technologies in programming, databases and computer systems generally ever since. He is now managing director of the software company Code-Times, Ltd, specialising in systems analysis, MS SQL Server database development, and building large applications on MS .NET for both the web and Windows. At Seven Dash he now runs the training departments, and designs and delivers a range of specialist computer science programmes on a principle of his own: training content that stays close to the practical reality of a working software company, rather than an academic syllabus with no regard for how the material is actually applied.

The questions we are asked most about this training programme

  • Does this course give you everything you need to promote a website?
  • Promoting your site on the internet rests on three main factors (the first is building your site correctly and in a way search engines can read, the second is adding content that is good from a search engine's point of view, and the third is publishing your site out on the web). This training programme concentrates mainly and intensively on the first two, because without them no result can be reached however much effort goes into the third. That is the central mistake most website owners and promoters fall into: they set out to promote sites that were never built correctly to begin with, and a great deal of time, money and effort is spent without ever reaching a result worth what was put in.
  • Does this training programme cover the topics involved in publicising web pages?
  • In the main, this material does not cover the topics involved in publicising web pages (promotional email, posting on forums or on other sites, and subjects of that kind). It may nevertheless touch on them in the course of preparing your site to handle those relationships, or while going through the myths that surround search engines (what is said about posting on forums, for instance).
  • Why is the third factor not included in this course?
  • Most of the courses and training programmes on this subject out on the internet concentrate mainly on the third factor in promoting a website, and overlook the first factor, and the second, entirely. The reason is probably that most of the people delivering them are not web developers in the first place. We therefore set out deliberately to design our programme around the factors the other courses do not discuss adequately, and just as deliberately to have it taught by professional, seasoned web developers (you simply cannot work out how to talk to Google's search robot, say, by reading the documentation Google publishes for its functions, unless you are a professional programmer who understands the code in it!). So we are proud that this material is distinctive and one of a kind, and you are welcome, if you want to look further, to go through the other training courses out on the internet.
  • Does this course help website owners as well, or is it only for specialists?
  • Most of the content of this course is built on a prior knowledge of the web design languages, so those attending are expected to arrive with at least a basic command of them. Even so, the course can be very important to website owners who want to check that what their designers have done is sound, and to keep track of how their sites perform. It also gives them the background they need to protect themselves from falling victim to the confidence tricks of some of the people who call themselves "website promotion experts!"
  • I want to take this course but have no background in the web design languages. What should I do?
  • If you own a website, or are interested in site promotion but have no idea about the design languages, you can ask for additional sessions giving a short introduction to the web design languages HTML/CSS. These short sessions give a general picture of how websites work and of the main code that builds a page. Please get in touch to discuss the request before you register.
